Meet Gary & Liz Bolton

What a beautiful wedding on a beautiful day!

On Saturday, October 8, 2011 at approximately 3:10 Liz and Gary were married in the chapel at the Lakefield College.

The weather was fantastic-perfect for picture taking --and family and friends had a great time celebrating.

We wish Gary and Liz happiness, good health and many fun filled days in their life together.

The bridesmaids’ dresses are from JS Group and are now available in the store.

Jim Nokes

Meet Jim Nokes

    No story about the staff from Cathy Allan’s Ladieswear would be complete without recognizing the contribution of Jim Nokes, Liz’s father. Jim is that tall, quiet gentleman who moves through the store so unobtrusively that you hardly know he is there. He willingly takes on all the little jobs that no one else seems to be able to fit into their busy schedule. No task is too trivial and Jim always approaches every request with a smile.

    You won’t see the work he does behind the scenes such as doing bank deposits, taking mail to the post office, doing minor repair work like replacing light bulbs, loading up the vehicles with clothes for the fashion shows and any other little job that requires his assistance.

    Jim is truly proud of his daughter Liz’s accomplishments and would do anything to lend a hand to help keep things at the store running smoothly. How fortunate for Liz that she has the unconditional support of her family in her business.

    A big thank you goes to Jim Nokes for all his endeavors. He is much appreciated by the staff.

The Quote of November

"November comes
And November goes,
With the last red berries
And the first white snows.

With night coming early,
And dawn coming late,
And ice in the bucket
And frost by the gate.

The fires burn
And the kettles sing,
And earth sinks to rest
Until next spring."

-  Elizabeth Coatsworth

  • The Topaz  is the gem for November.

  • The November Flower is the Chrysanthemum

        The bright butter yellow glow of the chrysanthemum brings joy, light,

        and cheer   to the dwindling days of November.

Perfect Roast Chicken

Chatelaine recipes

Preparation time 15 minutes

Roasting Time 1 hour 15 minutes

Standing Time 10 minutes
Makes 4 to 6 Servings

Ingredients:

* 3 1/2 lb (1.75 kg) whole chicken
* 1 large lemon
* 4 garlic cloves, peeled
* 2 tbsp (30 mL) butter, at room temperature

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 375 F (190 C). Remove neck and giblets from body cavity of chicken. Set aside and use for gravy if you wish. Place rack in shallow-sided roasting pan. Lightly spray with oil and set both aside.

2. Cut lemon into 4 wedges. Coarsely chop garlic. Sprinkle garlic and salt over the inside of cavity. Stuff with lemon wedges.

3. Place chicken breast-side up on rack in roasting pan. Rub butter over skin. Sprinkle all over with salt. If you want chicken to hold it's shape, tie legs together. But when testing, we got a more evenly cooked bird with crispier leg skin when we didn't do this. Tuck wings underneath bird.

4. roast, uncovered, in centre of preheated oven, basting once or twice with pan juices, until an instant read thermometer inserted into thickest part of thigh reads 170F (77C) and leg moves easily and its juices run clear, about 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 hours.

5. Remove cooked chicken to a cutting board. Loosely cover with foil and let stand 10 minutes before carving.

* Cooking Tip:

Citrus stuffing, such as lemon, lime or orange placed in the cavity of a chicken creates a juicier bird. It also gives off fragrant steam as it heats.

  Bon Appetite
