Going to the chapel and we're gonna get married.

Going to the chapel and we're gonna  get married.

Gee, I really love you and we're gonna to get married.
Going to the chapel of love.

On Saturday, October 8, 2011 Liz grimes and Gary Bolton will be joined in marriage at the Lakefield College School.

Be assured that the Beach Boys won’t be present singing their hit song "Going to the Chapel" BUT all of the staff at Cathy Allan’s will be standing in the chapel with hearts just bursting with joy. Everyone at the store is thrilled to be part of this love story and can’t wait to witness the marriage ceremony signaling the beginning of a new life together for Mr.& Mrs. Gary Bolton.

Congratulations to Liz and Gary and our wish for health and happiness in their future life together.

In honor of this special day Cathy Allan Ladieswear will be closed

New Signage at the Store

Our new look continues to evolve as we add more new features at our new location. If you haven’t visited the store recently you will be surprised when you arrive on your next visit to see our new signage.

The outside trim has been painted a lovely mauve color and a new permanent Cathy Allan sign has been installed. We love the look and have included a small photo just to give you a sneak preview.

               New Fall Arrivals

To say “ the store is bursting at the seams with new fall arrivals” would be an understatement as we are working hard to find a spot to put all the terrific new stock that is arriving daily. As usual Liz deliberately seeks Canadian suppliers with top quality styles, fabrics and reasonable prices whenever possible. Long time favorites such as Joseph Ribkoff, Lana Lee, Alison Sheri, Parkhurst, Ingenuity and Proportion Petite still grace the racks with their beautiful presence. Once again the colors are stunning and we need no longer worry about finding only darker, more muted shades for fall and winter wear.

The scarves this season are quite lovely with lots of subtle little touches of lace or beading to add a softer more feminine look. Sometimes just adding a new scarf to a favorite jacket or coat can create a whole new look. And……speaking of coats there is a very exciting collection including a fabulous reversible one from Parkhurst in shades of brown with faux fur on one side and a shimmery, water repellant fabric on the reverse side.

We encourage you to pay us a visit and see first hand the elegant fall collection available in a wide range of sizes, styles and price ranges.

Meet Peter Krause and Dianne Dalton

Not all of the staff who work to support Cathy Allan Ladieswear are visible when you visit the store. There is one very important member of Liz’s team that is rarely seen but often viewed by customers. Now if that statement sounds a bit puzzling it’s really quite easy to understand. Peter Krause who is the creative designer of the Cathy Allan Ladieswear website and the design manager/ contributor of the monthly newsletter cannot be found on site. BUT you see his work every time you visit the website or read the newsletter. The newsletter currently boasts a readership of over 1,300 customers and Peter has sole responsibility for maintaining the integrity of the list---no small feat!!

Peter’s “partner in crime” working to produce each monthly newsletter is Dianne Dalton (aka “ the fashion show commentator”). Dianne is the creator/writer of the articles that appear in each newsletter and works very closely with Peter fine tuning the final version before it gets distributed. They have lots of fun selecting the graphics and the special cartoons that enhance each article. It is truly a team effort.

Peter’s background is in mold and tool design, a field in which designers must look at the requirements for a specific part and then use their creative skills and their engineering expertise to build a mold to fit rigid specifications. We are not sure whether it was Peter’s desire to explore new creative venues or his wife Brigitte’s volunteering of his services that led to Peter becoming an important member of the Cathy Allan team –and we really did need to add a male to the  mix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whatever the motivation for Peter joining the team, the result has been nothing short of amazing.

He redesigned the website to make it much friendlier to use, easier to navigate and more interactive in nature. Today the website gets over 250 hits per week and Peter receives regular positive feedback from our customers. It is a difficult task to keep up on the many changing lines of stock available in the store and the many community events in which Cathy Allan Ladieswear is involved. The web site is constantly evolving and Peter is especially grateful for the participation and feed back from our customers.

We would definitely recommend Peter’s company to our customers. You can contact him at InterTechDesign.

Thank you Peter and Dianne for the wonderful contribution you make to our marketing and communication success.

Thanksgiving Celebrations

In homes all across Canada families will be gathering with their loved ones and their friends to give thanks. We are somewhat isolated from the horrific conditions under which many people in this world strive to make a home for their families. We need only look to the Horn of Africa where thousands are dying each day from hunger or to Syria where there is widespread killing of innocent people caught up in the internal struggle for democracy to realize how truly blessed we are to live in this magnificent country. As you gather at your table this Thanksgiving take a moment to remember those less fortunate than we are.

The staff at Cathy Allan Ladieswear wish you and your family a very

Happy Thanksgiving.

Fine Apple Fritter by: Brigitte Krause

Ingredients:

70 g sugar ( 2-1/2 ounce )

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

4 large, McIntosh apples

1-1/2 shot glasses of rum (1-1/2 ounce )

125 g all purpose flour ( 4-1/2 ounce )

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 pinch salt

2 egg yolks

1-1/2 tablespoons olive oil

3/4 cup lager beer

2 egg whites

1 cup icing sugar

For the frying pan: 1 liter of oil or Crisco

Directions:

Mix the sugar with the cinnamon. Peel the apples, remove the cores with an apple corer and cut the apples into about 1/2 inch thick slices. Sprinkle the apple slices with the cinnamon-sugar mix, drizzle with the rum, cover and let stand for 30 minutes. During that time baste the apples with the forming juice.

Now mix the flour with the baking powder, add the salt, egg yokes and the oil until smooth. Gradually stir the beer into the batter. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold under the dough.

Heat oil in a deep frying pan.

Dip and cover the apple slices with the dough and put in hot oil for 8-10 minutes until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon and drain well on paper towels.

Sprinkle the Apple fritters with the icing sugar while still hot and serve warm or cold.

( It also tastes good with ice cream ! )
