Sandra Brown

Meet Sandra Brown

Sandra Brown One of the most loved features of the store is the on site alteration service who provides that service is much more than a seamstress sitting at her machine shortening hemlines, sewing on missing beads or repairing seams. From designer dresses needing considerable alteration to simple hemming on pants and skirts Sandra has been providing excellent service to Cathy Allan customers for over ten years. A friend of Liz’s recommended Sandra when Liz decided to have an on site seamstress to provide service for her customers.
Sandra also does alterations for Nisbett’s Menswear so coming to work sometimes means just crossing the street!!!!

It is a great testament to her skill that the staff comes to her as well for all their alteration requirements. Quite frankly we have all witnessed her work miracles on alterations that seemed impossible to do. Cathy Allan customers are so pleased to be able to purchase the garment and have it altered at the store preventing a trip to some other location to have the alterations completed.

You may not see Sandra on a visit to the store because she is most often” hanging out” at her sewing machine down in the staff room. Her regular work schedule is Tuesdays and Thursdays but in emergency “fashion situations” Sandra is always willing to help out a customer. It is often helpful to book an appointment in order to prevent waiting for assistance when the store gets really busy.

If you come into the store on her regularly scheduled days and see a tall, statuesque young woman kneeling on the floor pinning a gown that would be Sandra.

Sandra has a passion for “BIG” dogs and is the proud owner of Thera, a Great Dane. She is an avid outdoors lover and spends time boating in the summer months and snowmobiling in the winter.

Sandra lives near Bridgenorth with her partner, Steve and her two children Kay Lynn age fifteen and Jamie age thirteen. Both of her children play hockey so it is a guarantee that you would see Sandra cheering them on at the hockey arena during hockey season .

She has been a wonderful addition to the Cathy Allan team so keep those alterations coming!!!!!!!!!!!! We don’t want to lose her.

The Quotes of September

"By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer."

-   Helen Hunt Jackson

" 'I grow old, I grow old,' the garden says.  It is nearly October.  The bean leaves grow paler, now lime, no yellow, no leprous, dissolving before my eyes.  The pods curl and do not grow, turn limp and blacken.  The potato vines wither and the tubers huddle underground in their rough weather-proof jackets, waiting to be dug.  The last tomatoes ripen and split on the vine; it takes days for them to turn fully now, and a few of the green ones are beginning to fall off."

Velvety Vanilla Cupcake

Original recipe contains 325 calories, 17 grams fat, 8.8 grams saturated fat, 85 mg cholesterol, and only 1 gram of fiber per cupcake.
Makes 24 cupcakes

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups whole-wheat pastry flour
1 1/2 cups unbleached white flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup less fat margarine
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
1 cup Splenda (or brown sugar )
1 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs
1/2 cup egg substitute
3 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 cup low fat buttermilk

Dip and Twist Chocolate Frosting:

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/3 cup baking cocoa
2 tablespoons less fat margarine
2 tablespoons fat free half and half or low fat milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 325-degrees with the rack in the center position. Line muffin pans with baking cups and set aside.

2. Add flours, baking powder, salt and baking soda to a medium bowl and whisk together until nicely blended.

3. Add the less fat margarine, vanilla yogurt, Splenda, and sugar to a mixing bowl and beat with electric mixer (fitted with paddle attachment) until light and fluffy (3 to 5 minutes). While the mixing is still running, add in the eggs, egg substitute and vanilla extract. Beat until well blended.

4. With mixer on low speed, add a cup of the flour mixture and beat on low speed until combined. Add 1/2 cup of the buttermilk and beat until combined. Alternate adding some of the remaining flour mixture and remaining buttermilk, ending with flour. Beat on low until nicely blended.

5. Spoon about 1/4 cup of batter into each baking cup. Bake until lightly brown and a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean (about 25 to 30 minutes). Transfer cupcake pans to a wire rack to cool if desired.

6. Meanwhile, in small mixing bowl, beat 1/2 cup of the powdered sugar, cocoa, margarine, 1 tablespoon milk and vanilla extract until creamy. Gradually beat in remaining powdered sugar and milk until smooth.

7. Frost cooled cupcakes by turning the cupcakes upside down and dipping their tops into the bowl of frosting. Then turn the cupcake right side up giving the wrist a little twist so all of the frosting stays on top of the cupcake.
